We Created The Padded Backpack Car Seat Travel Bag, And Now We’ve Made It Better Than Ever.

While your baby may only be a few months old, or a year old or maybe even two years told…one of our “babies” is a whopping 20 years old. That “baby” is our Ultimate Padded Backpack Car Seat Travel Bag and this year, it’s getting a well-deserved upgrade.

While all of J.L. Childress’ product development is done in-house, we are inspired constantly by conversations we have with our retail partners, our customers, our friends and our parent panels that we conduct throughout the year. 20 years ago, we had one specific conversation with the owner of a mom & pop baby shop in Northern California. The conversation was about the struggles of traveling with a car seat, and that the only available option of a bag with wheels, at the time, didn’t seem to meet parents’ needs. From that conversation, our development team got to work and came up with the Ultimate…a fully padded, backpack-style bag for car seats, infant carriers and booster seats.

We (of course) LOVED the idea. With a car seat on your back, it meant your arms and hands were free to push and pull other luggage or a stroller, hold your child, etc. The full padding meant your car seat, especially when checked as luggage, would be much better protected from damage. The backpack straps were developed with a harness-style top, to make the bag as comfortable as possible to carry. However, parents weren’t super keen on the idea of putting a heavy, bulky car seat on their back (which, yes, is fully understandable).

Over the years, we continued to sell the Ultimate and, once parents had the opportunity to start writing and reading product reviews, the Ultimate really began to shine. Parents who had purchased the bag and experienced the unexpected ease of carrying their car seat on their back had become raving fans and desirous of sharing their experience with other parents. Positive reviews came in, and consumers started to notice.

Today, wearing a massive car seat backpack is no longer as faux pas as it once was, as parents are traveling more than ever before and greatly appreciate anything that will make their adventures a little easier. - THICKER PADDING: 3x thicker padding provides TOTAL protection from damage during transit. The padding thickness, rather than just the existence of ‘some’ padding, makes a difference in properly protecting your valuable car seat.

- ATTACHED AIRTAG HOLDER: Being able to track your car seat, these days, is essential. Whether gate checking it or checking it as luggage, equipping your car seat with a trackable AirTag offers peace of mind during often hectic travel situations. A silicone AirTag holder is attached to the inside of this bag, ensuring your AirTag doesn’t get lost and is protected during travel. If you happen to have a different kind of tracking device, it can be easily hooked onto the AirTag holder’s loop to stay attached inside the bag.

- BACKPACK STRAPS THAT TUCK AWAY DURING TRANSIT: While we LOVE backpack straps, they can become an issue when your bag is checked as luggage as they get caught on conveyer belts. Airlines will often not cover damage to your bag or car seat if they deem the damage is caused by straps extending too far away from the checked bag. Our solution? Create a hide-away pouch for you to stuff in those amazing straps! Which is exactly what we did.

- HANDLE WITH CARE REMINDERS: Even though it’s pretty obvious what’s in this bag by it’s shape, it’s helpful to offer reminders to airline personnel to handle your valuable car seat with care.
